Hi guyss! back again with me, on my blog this time I'll discuss about Invitation.
According to the Oxford Learner's Dictionary defines "invitation" as follows:
a spoken or written request to somebody to do something or to go somewhere
So "invitation" is a request either in the form of words or in writing to someone to do something or go somewhere.
A. The Purpose Invitation
To invite or invite someone to attend a certain event. In general, each invitation will be marked with a purpose by including the following phrases:
Would you like to come
Would you like to join us
I would like to invite you
Request the present of…
Anyway, it can be marked with various kinds of phrases and sentences that have the meaning of INVITE with the basic vocabulary of "invite", "join", 'come "," request ", and others
B. Generic Structure of an Invitation
In general, the text of an invitation includes:
1. Receiver / To : the name of the person addressed / invited
2. Body of invitation : The contents of the invitation are usually the following:
- Subject : Name of Event
- Day or Date : Day and date
- Time : The time specified
- Place : The place where the event is held
3. Sender / from : The person who sent the invitation
C. Type of Invitation Letter
- Formal Invitation Letter
This type of invitation is an invitation letter in an official context. This Invitation Letter has a standard format that we must use when making a formal invitation letter (Formal Incvitation Letter). As for some examples of Formal Invitation Letters or official invitation letters, such as: Wedding invitations, graduation invitations, and many other types of official invitations that are around us.
Example :
- Informal Invitataion Letter
Unlike the formal invitatin letter used in a formal or official context, an informal Invitation Letter is used in an informal context. It is not uncommon for this invitation letter to be delivered only via short message or short memo to the recipient. Get some examples of Informal Invitation letters, such as: Party invitations, birthday invitations, dinner invitations and some other informal invitations.
Example :
Making Invitation
- Would you come to...?
- Do you like to come?
- Would you like to...?
- I would very happy if...?
- Might you want to go along with us?
Accepting Invitation
- That's very kind of you
- With the greatest pleasure
- Ok! I will be there
- Sure, I am coming
- That would be very nice
Declining Invitation
- I'd like to, but...
- Thank you for asking me, but...
- Unfortunately, I can't...
- I'm sorry, I can't
- Sorry, maybe next time
Example Dialog (formal) :
Pinkan : Hi Della!
Della : Hi Pinkan!
Pinkan : Are you free tommorow?
Della : Tes, I'm free
Pinkan : Would you like to come Jay's birthday party with me?
Della : With the greatest pleasure
Pinkan : Okay, see you tommorow at 4 p.m.
Della : Okay see you
Conclusion :
- Would you like to come Jay's birthday party with me? (Making Invitation)
- With the greatest pleasure (Accepting Invitation)

Pinkan : Yes, I got it
Della : Shall we come to Jake's birthday party?
Pinkan : That would be very nice
Della : Okay
Conclusion :
- Shall we come to Jake's birthday party? (Making Invitation)
- That would be very nice (Accepting Invitation)
